66th Golden Globe Awards [BEST DRESSED]

One of the evening's early arrivals, Eva turned up the heat on the red carpet with this dramatic, fitted fishtail gown.

Trend alert: Fitted bodices, shimmery/metallic colours and fishtail trains are three fashion trends to watch out for on this season's red carpets.

Understated elegance suits the English actress. This sleek gown walked Winslet to the winners' circle twice that evening, as she walked away with the Globes for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.

The slightly cinched waist compliments Kate's figure with just the right amount of bling to cheer up any red carpet event, in these troubled economic times.

Trend Alert: Kate's is probably one of the best executions of a chignon with a sweeping bang, a red carpet hairdo you'll be seeing a lot of this award season.

We can't tell if this was Beyonce or Sasha Fierce. Whoever it was, her dress hit a homerun. Showing off her fit yet curvy figure, Mrs. Carter worked that carpet to perfection in this bejewelled metallic gown.

Our only qualm is with the amount of bling she has on. In times like these it may be prudent for the reigning queen of hip-pop to tone it down a little. As long as she doesn't tell anyone to eat cake though, she'll be fine. Damn fine!

Trend alert: Metallic fabrics, fitted corsets and built-in-bling (jewels and stones set directly into gowns) are three trends to watch, this award season.

Drew borrows from old Hollywood with a sense of humour and style.

The oversized ring and the red clutch set things a little off kilter, but the softness and graceful lines of the dress's silhouette score the match point in Drew's favour.

If we had one criticism it would have to be the eye-shadow matched to her dress. Blue eye-shadow is a sin on any red carpet. One though that we're willing to forgive.

The Jolie-Pitts have quite a reputation to uphold on a red carpet. While Angelina's look is a little lacklustre here, her smartest accessory, Brad, is her saving grace.

Together the A-list couple look statuesque and chic.

Trend alert: Metallic fabrics and billowing/flowing silhouettes are two trends to watch during, this award season.

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has been known to charm many a critic on the red carpet. She's done it again.

If we have one criticism it would be the length of the bodice, which makes Hayden look a little short and stumpy. The colour certainly suits though, as does her flowing skirt.

Trend alert: Purple is the colour of this year's award season. The dress's billowing/flowing silhouette is also another trend to watch.

This chic double-breasted suit in dark blue almost distracted from the fact that Tom showed up without Katie in tow, bringing his mom instead. The look is finished off with a matching tie and a hint of a pocket square. We give Cruise a 10 out of 10.

This regal gown was certainly one of the best in show. The veteran TV actress finished the look off with a good amount of sparkle, proving that glamour isn't exclusive to film stars.

Trend alert: The chignon with the sweeping bang hairdo - one of the biggest red carpet trends this season will see.

Gents, this is how you work a red carpet.

While Leo can't seem to win himself an award in Hollywood, the Revolutionary leading man knows how to dress for a Tinseltown ceremony.

Simple black paired with a classic white shirt suits the suave DiCaprio. Keeping it understated and effortlessly chic, Leo knows he needn't do much to stand out.

Style tip: Guys, with formal events remember that you can safely get away with a black and white palette, as long as the suit fits well. Unlike with your better halves, you don't need a splash of colour to stand out. The simpler the ensemble, the fewer chances there are of you messing it up.

Leave all self-expression to speech, and people will actually talk to you. Wear a clown tie or loud shirt and you won't be expressing yourself, you'll just be by yourself.

The charming Hathaway picked a stunning blue gown to walk this year's red carpet.

We love the silhouette and delicate beading here as well as the deep and yet attention-grabbing colour. It compliments Anne's signature pale look. They seem to keep her in doors the other 364 days of the year.

Trend alert: Purple is the colour of this year's award season. From pale lavenders to deeper more bluish shades of the colour. You'll see a lot of it on this year's red carpets.

66th Golden Globe Awards [WORST DRESSED]

This look was the biggest letdown of the evening. It begs that old, cliché question, "What was she thinking?"

From the mosquito net top-half to the horrid looking skirt and train. This is a look that could get a stylist excommunicated.

What happened to our dear ole' Cameron?

This gown is needlessly complicated. The already modestly bosomed Diaz looks positively stifled in the chest area by this horridly pink gown. The creased fabric and the gathered bow at the back make it look as though the poor starlet had been through some sort of ordeal before her arrival.

This disaster of a look is then topped off by a half-blonde, half-brunette hairdo. We strongly suggest Diaz pursue legal action against her stylists.

Wearing fabric our aunties wouldn't even use as curtains, J. Lo turned heads for all the wrong reasons.

Everything about this gown is wrong. From the toilet-seat shaped neckline to the front-side train, that could only serve to trip-up the wearer, this gown was a disaster.

The once chic and well put together Lopez has taken a turn for the worst in recent years. This look though, takes the cake.

It is very hard to mess up a dark blue suit. But apparently not hard enough, as Mentalist star Simon Baker managed to do it smashingly well. Let's run through his list of offenses, shall we.

First off there's the terrible fit. Is it too much to ask that a star, with designers throwing free wares at him, take the time to pick the one garment that fits properly? It never serves a paparazzi magnet well to be swimming in his suit jacket at an award show. There's enough room in there for a small Turkish family.

Baker also manages to get it wrong with the tie, which is disproportionately thin and not properly matched to the rest of his suit.

The worst crime however, is that atrocious velvet piping on the lapels of his ill-fitting jacket.

What was he (and/or his stylist) thinking?

I guess Maggie didn't read our Coco Lee critique. Blue leopard doesn't work on a red carpet! Aside from that there's the positively Flintstone cut to this dress. It needs to go back into Wilma's closet.
